Monday May 3rd

Today we are heading back from Kailua-Kona.

We got up, had buffet breakfast at the Keohau Outrigger Resort accompanied by birds, and the brave and bold 'Iole manakuke (Hawaiian Mongoose, which was imported from Jamaica in the 1800's to control pests in the sugar cane fields).

We strolled about, took a short nap on the edge of the snorkeling cove near the Outrigger (apparently some of the best on the island but we had such a great day at Captain Cook's Memorial we did not want to spoil it with a possibly mediocre experience, plus the lounge chairs were so inviting and the weather so perfect!).

At 11:00 A.M. back to the room, packed up, checked out by 12ish... ish... and very quick stop at ABC stores for last minute goofy souvenirs.

Then a little before 2:00 P.M., we went to Grandma Christina's and Grandpa Mark's where Rita already was. We had quick chat, took some pictures, in particular of Rocky and Dillon. Then we went to Don's Mai Tai Bar in the Royal Kona Resort.

Don's Mai Tai Bar place was awesome. Three of us had the kaluah pork quesadillas, sides of fries, coconut shrimp, etc etc. Delish!  The location was great, literally perched above the crashing waves on black lava rocks.

We took some photos, saw some people trying to catch a couple of marlins. Pretty amazing big fish. Both got away (lines probably broke it looked like).

Then we headed for the airport around 4:20 P.M.
